Starmedia Entertainment brought together legendary Original Pilipino Music (OPM) hitmakers Rico J. Puno (“May Bukas Pa,” “Macho Gwapito”), Hajji Alejandro (“Nakakapagtaka”), Rey Valera (“Maging Sino Ka Man,” “Malayo Pa Ang Umaga.” and Marco Sison (“My Love Will See You Through”) in “OPM Hitmakers” concert at the Superstar Theater-Resorts Atlantic City last April 22, 2018.
Now in its 4th year, the Philippine Consulate in New York presents the “Filipino Restaurant Week,” where Ugly Kitchen (103 1st Ave.), which serves Asian fusion and Filipino cuisine, is one of its regular participants.
Other regulars include Maharlika, Jeepney, Kuma Inn, and Swell Dive, as well as new restaurants in the mix such as FlipSigi, Mighty Bowl, Kabisera Kape, Ibis Eats, Mountain Province, Talde, Tama, La Parilla de Manila, Perla, and Jappy Afzelius.
These restaurants are offering lunch at $25 and dinner at $35 until May 26, 2018.
Produced by the Association of Fil-Am Teachers of America (AFTA), the Philippine-based Leyte Dance Theater presented “Simbolo at Kultura” at the Rock Church Queens last April 14, 2018. The delightful production served as a fundraiser to benefit the school children and survivors in the war-torn Marawi City in the Philippines, as well as those who need help in Albay, Leyte, and Negros.
The dance event was divided into four sections: the Mindanao Sketches, Bailes de Ayer, Dances of the Lowlanders, and Lupang Hinirang.
The Knights of Rizal (KOR), Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDCI), and friends at the Philippine Center in New York City held “A Knight To Remember, A Night To Celebrate,” a tribute to Ambassador Mario Lopez de Leon Jr., 2018 PIDCI honorary grand marshal, last April 20, 2018, at the Philippine Center.
PIDCI plans and implements the annual commemoration of the Philippine Independence Day parade and activities along Madison Avenue in Manhattan, which is set on June 3 this year.
The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), the marketing and promotions agency of the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT), and Philippine Airlines hosted the Filipino-American media outlets’ familiarization tour in Manila and Davao last November 2017.
The tour included visits to the Walled City of Intramuros and the Bonifacio Global City in Manila, and the Pearl Farm and the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao.
